What are sexually transmitted Infections (STls)?
Sexually transmitted infections are infections or conditions transmitted through sexual contact, caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites. STls sometimes are regarded as STDs. The most common types of sexually transmitted infections include chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, and HIV. Many of these STDs do not show symptoms for a long time. Even without symptoms, they can still be harmful and passed on during sex.
What is the difference between STI and STDs?
Essentially, the difference is between a disease and an infection. Not all diseases begin with infections, but many do. Sexually transmitted disease first begin as sexually transmitted infections. Infection occurs with the sexually transmitted bacteria or virus first enters the body and begins multiplying. The infection may progress into a disease. Disease occurs when this foreign presence officially disrupts the body’s normal functions and processes.

How would I know if I have an STI?
